SOULCARE TRAINING ACADEMY 2025
WORKSHOP 7:
Sweaty Palms; Blushing Cheeks: A Peek into Sex Therapy
August 26, 2025 (Tuesday)
9am - 5pm
Workshop Description:
Talking about sex in therapy can be nerve-wracking—for both clients and therapists. This engaging session offers mental health professionals a friendly and non-intimidating introduction to the world of sex therapy. We’ll explore what sex therapy is (and isn’t), why sexual concerns often go unspoken in sessions, and how you can start addressing them with confidence and sensitivity. From desire discrepancies to sexual shame, you’ll gain insight into common issues clients face and learn how to respond without freezing, blushing, or changing the subject.
Whether you’re curious or cautious, this 7-hour, full-day workshop will help you bring sex out of the shadows—and into the therapeutic conversation.
This workshop is designed for licensed and certified mental health practitioners and counseling and clinical psychology students who have at least completed their practicum placements.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
Explain the role, goals, and scope of sex therapy.
Articulate their own personal values and cultural influences related to sexuality and recognize how these factors may impact their clinical work.
Demonstrate comfort when initiating and navigating conversations about sexual topics with clients.
Apply basic sex-positive communication principles and interviewing techniques to explore clients’ sexual histories and concerns sensitively.
Utilize a biopsychosocial lens to assess sexual concerns and begin identifying contributing factors across biological, psychological, social, and cultural domains.
